This was a very informative meeting with Basil Wild, commissioner for the AWP, about the plan to change services for mental health in the community following the “Building Bridges” report, and due to the current financial constraints. We have a copy of the “draft” flow chart of how that would look. It is only a draft and is going to change, but it gives a fairly good idea of the future. It includes:
- respite beds to avoid hospital admission.
- input into a “Recovery College”, where courses will be run that service-users and carers can access alongside medical care, helping reduce isolation and improve mental wellbeing.
- “floating support”, whereby when someone is well they don’t have to use the support available but can carry it forward to when they need it.
- peer support, which is in itself very powerful and effective
There is currently being developed a check list to simplify pathways for GP services and signpost pathways.
All in all, a very good and informative meeting, and thanks once again to Basil for coming to talk to us, it is much appreciated.
